We Are
Newfield Elementary
School is a Responsive Classroom Leadership School located in
the residential neighborhood of Pepper Ridge Road in Stamford.
We are a Kindergarten through 5th grade school, comprised of students
from many cultural backgrounds. We provide an atmosphere that
celebrates our differences in a warm and nurturing environment.
The diversity of our school’s staff, our students and our
community are all contributing factors to the success of our school.

Our staff
works well together to accomplish school goals and objectives,
which focus on Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Technology and Responsive
Classroom. Our Mission Statement defines our school curriculum
as one that should “stimulate learning, build on the strengths
of each child, and help students to become lifelong learners and
productive citizens of their community.” Click

Curriculum
In addition
to the strong curricular program that provides instruction in
Reading, Writing and Mathematics, our students also receive instruction
in the areas of Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Music,
Art and Media. Our school has two computer labs for instruction
and support with technology skills and projects. There are classroom
computers, printers and a building network to share resources
and access the Internet. We encourage the integration of technology
into all areas of the curriculum and seek to provide students
with the information and problem solving skills necessary to succeed
in today’s world.
Responsive
Classroom
The Responsive
Classroom philosophy is the cornerstone of our academic community.
It promotes the development of a social curriculum that believes
that the school’s greatest contribution to the future will
be the way it helps to weave and strengthen the social fabric
of the community it serves. How children are treated and how they
learn to treat others is of utmost importance at Newfield School.
As the social skills of cooperation, assertion, responsibility,
empathy and self-control increase, the behavior problems decrease,
and a noticeable family-like climate permeates the school.
Our parents
are supportive and involved, and the PFO is a strong and vibrant
organization which holds many fundraising and social events for
the benefit and enjoyment of our school community. Newfield School
is truly a wonderful place to be!
